About

  • I'm Kristen, a clumsy but determined home cook and crafter living in the Boston area with my husband, B, and I have an interest in all things food and craft.

This blog was created to keep track of my various projects and adventures. They may not all be successes, but my goal is to remain unintimidated by whatever engages my curiosity.

Gluten Free Buttermilk Biscuits

Now that you’ve made your own sweet, sweet jam, wouldn’t you love to slather it on a warm and fluffy biscuit with some butter? These biscuits have been a long time in the making and, when I say a long time, I mean over a year and a half of experimenting with the recipe, using every type of gluten free ingredient imaginable, and having several results that weren’t exactly edible. I’ve learned a lot about making gluten free biscuits along the way.

Sugar Free Strawberry Jam

Now that you’ve made jars upon jars of tasty jam, you may want to dress some up to give away to friends and family as gifts, and you’ll definitely want to label them so you’ll know whether you’re opening a jar of strawberry jam or raspberry jam.

Sugar Free Strawberry Jam

Food canning is one of those things that seems intimidating at first, but trust me when I say that it’s not difficult at all. If anything, you’re going to find yourself obsessed with making jam, jelly, and pretty much whatever other tasty foods you can find and stuff into a canning jar. Okay, maybe that’s just me, but canning really is easy and fun once you get the hang of it, and that shouldn’t take long at all.

Chicken Burgers with Spinach and Caramelized Onions

Though I have yet to find a great gluten free recipe for burger buns — I’m working on it — I still enjoy a tasty burger. I’ve been experimenting more with ground chicken and turkey, and these chicken burgers with spinach and caramelized oinions have definitely earned their place on my “make again” list. The spinach and onions not only keep the meat nice and moist, but they also bump up the flavor. Add more caramelized onions and a little cheese on top, some rosemary thyme oven fries on the side, and you’ve got a winner!

Craftig Social Bookmarking for Crafters

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been busy launching my newest venture, Craftig, a social bookmarking website specifically for crafters. You can sign up for a free account at Craftig and, in minutes, be ready to start submitting links to your favorite crafty tutorials and how tos!

I was inspired to start Craftig when I realized that there was no way, even with all of the craft blogs that I follow, to possibly see everything that was going on in the online craft world. It was sad for me to think that I was missing so many wonderfully creative projects, and I thought that it would be a good idea to create a site where anyone who creates or has an interest in crafts could go to submit and share their own crafts or their favorites from around the web.

I’m excited about this new project and am so thankful to everyone who has signed up, contributed, and been so supportive of Craftig, and I’m loving all of the different crafts that everyone has posted so far! In addition to the main site, I’ll be tweeting about all things craft @craftig, and I’ll be posting a Craft of the Day every weekday on the Craftig blog and on the Craftig Facebook group, where I hope to get some good crafty discussions going, too.

Dairy Free, Sugar Free Ice Cream

A few years ago, I bought my first ice cream maker. My head was filled with fantasies of making my own custom ice cream, flavored in any wild and wonderful way that I could imagine. It was a great time, and then I actually made something. My wild and wonderful custom ice cream ideas came crashing down when I discovered that, after an overnight session in the freezer, my ice cream was as hard as a block of ice. Like, a you-need-an-ice-pick-to-get-into-it hard.
