About

  • I'm Kristen, a clumsy but determined home cook and crafter living in the Boston area with my husband, B, and I have an interest in all things food and craft.

This blog was created to keep track of my various projects and adventures. They may not all be successes, but my goal is to remain unintimidated by whatever engages my curiosity.

Glittered Mini Witch Hat Pumpkin

This craft is part of the 13 Days of Halloween project. Download number templates for the project, as well as the bug template for Day 3, in the tips and supplies post. Links to all of the crafts from this project can be found in the main 13 Days of Halloween post.

With all of the glitter and glue, these little witch hats are a bit messy but a lot of fun to make. And the result is a neato topper for mini pumpkins. Make a bigger cone and base for the hat, and you’ll have a topper for larger pumpkins, too.

Pom Pom Pumpkin Tutorial

I first made these pom pom pumpkins last year when I did the flowers, but by the time I posted the pom pom flower tutorial I felt that it was probably too late in the season for the pumpkins, so here they are this year! They make cute little accessories for bookshelves and other nooks and crannies, and I think that they’d look nice coupled with a table place card at a fall themed wedding or Thanksgiving dinner, as well. Plus, they’re very easy to make, so you can have a whole patch full of pom pom pumpkins in no time!

As I previously mentioned, B and I went on vacation to the Outer Banks this September, and the October issue of Martha Stewart Living was my reading material on our flight from Boston to Richmond, Virginia. I try to pick up the October issue every year because Martha (and her helper elves) usually come up with several inspirational crafts and ideas for Halloween.

Tropical Pumpkin Smoothies

Pumpkin is something that I like to eat all year long (give me some tasty pumpkin bread or pumpkin cookies, and I’m in heaven), so I’m always looking for interesting ways to incorporate it in recipes. It’s also a superfood, so I feel even better about eating it because it has mucho nutritional value.

I’ve seen a lot of smoothie recipes that sound like pumpkin pie in a glass, which is fantastic, but I wondered how pumpkin would do if I put it in with more “tropical” ingredients and little spice to make a kind of “pumpkin goes summer” smoothie.

Halloween Paper Crafts

Is it really almost Halloween? I haven’t even had my yearly viewing of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” yet.

I also recently realized that I haven’t yet told you about my new site, k.becca, which launched back in September. The new site is part portfolio, part paper crafts blog, and part shop. Yep, I finally opened my own shop!

I’m working hard on finishing up my Christmas and winter holiday collections, but in the meantime, if you’re looking for some fun Halloween goodies, head on over and check out the printable Halloween paper designs and die-cutting templates that are in the shop right now. And have a gander at the blog, where you’ll find some very quick and easy Halloween treat bag video tutorials. I never thought I’d ever voluntarily do a video tutorial, but I stepped outside my comfort zone and went for it, and I’m actually really enjoying making them. Look for some Christmas and winter paper craft tutorials very soon.

Gluten and Sugar Free Chocolate Beet Cake

It was the night before my first ever CSA pickup, and it felt like Christmas Eve. What great produce was I going to find in my share? What was I going to make with it? Ooh, the sheer excitement of it all!
