I’m probably more than a bit behind here, but I finally got the chance to watch the movie Coraline a few weeks ago, and I loved it! I’m a big fan of almost anything stop motion, so I knew that I was going to enjoy Coraline for this alone, but I was also amazed by all of the crafty little details that can be found throughout the film.
One detail in particular stuck with me : the teensy weensy chicken pot holder (above). I couldn’t get that cute little thing out of my head, and I knew that I wasn’t going to shake my chicken pot holder obsession until I made one for myself. So, that’s just what I did this weekend. It took a couple of tries, but I’m very happy with the result. Mine is still probably 10x the size of the one in the movie — I bow to the creatives who can make such tiny, detailed things — but it is the perfect kitchen accent.
As you can see below, the mini chicken pot holder is totally multi-purpose. It can be used as a ladle warmer, a clever pumpkin topper (I have to give credit to B for this one), and my favorite, a spice cosy:
Hmm, now I’m thinking that I may have to make a full-size oven mitt to match the mini one. And the chicken pot holder obsession continues…

Mary – completely agree about the button-eyed chef!

posted: November 7th, 2009 at 12:21 amSorry, Ken, but this is a miniature oven mitt, and because it’s made of felt it wouldn’t hold up to an oven’s heat. I hope that you found one for your girlfriend’s birthday!

posted: November 28th, 2009 at 6:14 pmThanks, Erin! Wasn’t it a great movie?
Brittany, the spice rack was a gift, but I’m pretty certain that it was purchased from Dean & Deluca: http://www.deandeluca.com/new-and-seasonal/wedding/dean-and-deluca-spice-rack.aspx . A tad spendy, but I love mine!
